The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) announced that, so far in the 2022-2023 export campaign, Piura producers have managed to export a total of 1,986 tons of mango to the Chilean market.

In this way, the Authority ruled out that Chile has closed its market for Peruvian mangoes as circulated; On the contrary, he announced that with the support of the private sector, an investigation is being carried out to demonstrate that hydrothermal treatment eliminates queresas; pest for which SAG Chile imposed phytosanitary restrictions for mangoes from our country.

Chile represents 3% of the total volume exported by Peru, receiving mainly seven mango varieties; Of which, 78% corresponds to the Kent variety, followed by Haden 18%, Ataulfo 2%, and 2% between Tommy Atkins, Edward and Keit.

International management

In 2022, the interception of two queresas in mango shipments led to the temporary suspension of the Chilean market for the Peruvian fruit; situation that was overcome thanks to the efforts of Senasa, through technical negotiations, bilateral meetings and the proposal of a plan of corrective measures that allow to continue with the export of mangoes to Chile.

To export mangoes to Chile, it is necessary for producers to comply with the sanitary measures plan agreed between SAG and Senasa, have a certificate of place of production, the fruit is subjected to hydrothermal treatment and the phytosanitary certificate of the shipment is managed.

All these measures were socialized by Senasa, through training sessions that were developed in the Valley of the Incas, San Isidro Sector, Malingas, Hualtaco I, II and IV and Cerro Partidor Sector; with great participation of producers.
